Saturday, 11/07, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. ~ Roanoke TeaParty Rally

roanoke_tea_partyFrom the Roanoke Tea Party:

OK fellow patriots… here we go again.

We will assemble this Saturday (11/07) from 2:00-4:00 p.m. to drive home the message of this week’s election – we don’t want no stinkin’ government health care!

We will meet at the intersection of Hershberger Road and I-581, near Valley View. Our meeting place is the site of the old Celebration Station on Hershberger, and we’ll line Hershberger as far as our numbers allow.

See the areas in red on the map below:

The weather should be glorious – a wonderful day to be outside and celebrate your liberty.

If you can’t be there the whole time, please swing by and stay for as long as you can – even if it’s only for a few minutes. Perhaps you have errands or shopping up that way, and will take a stand with us on Saturday afternoon.

Here are a few very important things to keep in mind:

* Stay in the grassy areas along the side of the road.
* Stay out of the road – do not impede traffic in any way.
* Bring signs about health care reforms – and be positive as well as negative.
* This is not about the President – we are trying to influence our Senators.
* Remind them of the results of Tuesday’s vote!

Tell your friends… bring a neighbor… take a stand. We depend on your participation to make this work!

Let us work together to stop ………

Roanoke Valley Independence Day Tea Party

Just what was the “Tea Party” & Why have one? …….. Well I believe that this video answers those questions very well.

As libertarians we support all things that promote Liberty. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in and help support the Roanoke Tea Party Movement and participate in the Independence day Tea Party. I have also established a Tea Party Forum for the Roanoke Tea Party Movement to use on our Roanoke Liberty Discussion Board.

The Libertarian Party had three speakers at the Roanoke Valley Independence Day Tea Party. Jeff Bowles (The Virginia State Central Committee Chairman), Jim Lark (former Libertarian National Committee Chairman & current Vice-Chair of the Libertarian Party of Virginia) and Brian Gottstein (LP member). We also had a tent and table set up to hand out literature, give a few quizzes, and meet like minded individuals. The organizers estimates put the crowd at approximately 1000 people. I think there were 1200 to 1500 people, because one of the Tea Party organizers had been counting and reached over 950 before “it got too crowded to count anymore”. Oh, and of course the Roanoke Times (local paper) estimates that only “a few hundred” showed up……. Also, here are the stories from Channel 7 & Channel 10 (click on links to view the news stories). Neither TV news channel estimated the number of attendees.

The tent/table was manned by Jeff Bowles, Dr. Jim Lark, Liz Bowles, Andy Akers, & myself Erik Kritter (ok, I admit it I mostly ran around with a camera….). We administered quite a few quizzes (several hundred) & meet a lot of Liberty minded people.

Brian Gottstein speaking at the Independence Day Tea Party in Roanoke, Virginia July 4th 2009.

I am pleased to have gone to and participated in the event.

Please remember this quote from Frederick Douglass and do not allow your family, friends, & neighbors to forget it as well!

Those who profess to favor freedom and yet depreciate agitation, are people who want crops without ploughing the ground; they want rain without thunder and lightning; they want the ocean without the roar of its many waters. The struggle may be a moral one, or it may be a physical one, or it may be both. But it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand; it never has and it never will.
